"Ptakha" similar to "Zqapa", is a vowel represented by two dots, one on top of the letter and one under it, and it gives the letter the sound of a or ä *.
1. a as in bad, ash, the Alps, Cadillac, chat, ambush, algebra, animal, Assyrian, America, Arizona, Akadians
2. ä as in arch, ark, bar, architect, Amish, Azirbayjan, Ararat, ball, mall, paul, tall

The difference between Ptakha and Zqapa is mostly ruled by the grammar where the verb is involved, which will be discussed in more advanced stages of this course. For now, these three rules are sufficient:
1. use zqapa and not ptakha if the word ends with the vowel "a" or "ä" .
2. for nouns and foriegn vocabulary use ptakha when the letter after it is stressed,
examples for how ptakha sounds (in English): Russia, truck, tucker, stuck, rugby, fun, fussing, stumpy, hush, tumbler, trust
3. use ptakha for the first letter of the participle when there is a "o-waow" after the first "a" or "ä" vowel, in other words, when the first vowel is "a" or "ä", and the second vowel is "o" or "oo", use ptakha for the first vowel, example:

Notice in the third example, even though some of the "ptakha" vowels do not represent the stress on the letter after
them, the vowel will still stay "ptakha".
