-Talqana-
Talqana is a slanted line placed on the letter and it causes it lose its sound, it kind of makes it silent and unheard. In English, there are such words that are not pronounced, there have no slanted line on them, but we know they are not pronouced, words like: knife, calm, numb, thumb, etc.
The reason why the " atwati tleeqi" or "the lost letters"—since they have lost their sound, are spelled out even though they are not pronounced, is that their origin—either from the old Aramaic or any forign language has them included in that word, and it is a common sence to keep them there, just like we keep the letter "k" in "knife", "l" in "calm", "b" in "numb" and in "thumb" without pronouncing them. |
