A note about the videos |
Dear friends, I have created these videos in HD, but somehow sometimes they don't show this way, and I don't know why. In YouTube, especially they are blurry. I will try to find a solution. And if anyone knows why they change the resolution, please give me your advice. Thank you.

Easy to download Free Assyrian Fonts
created by different individuals
Note: These fonts are free of charge and easy to share. Even though most of the characters look the same, the creators of them have used their own keyboard and placed the vowels and some of the characters on different keys, which means if we take a text typed with Dr. Esho Marcus' fonts, and substitute its content's font with Rabi Daniel Benyamin's or George Kiraz' fonts (and vice versa), it will look different in many ways. The vowels (zowei) and some of the characters will not look right.
To type correctly using a particular Syriac (Assyrian) font, make sure you use the keyboard related to that font.
Here are two examples of how to type with Dr. Esho Marcus' fonts and George Kiraz' — assuming the language bars, the fonts and the keyboards are already installed on your computer,--
1.In the Task Bar at the right bottom corner of the screen, there are two letters such as "EN", "SY", "FA"… These are the language bars indicating the language which the computer is set up to at this moment. If it is "EN", it means the computer is set to "English", "FA" for Persian and "SY" for Syriac (Assyrian), etc. If the language bar is "SY" go to step 3, if not, go to step 2.
2. Click on "EN" or other language; other languages will be listed. Select "SY" by clicking on it. The language will change to Syriac (Assyrian).

To type with Dr. Esho Marcus' fonts, do this:
3. When the "SY" is selected, besides it, there will be a small keyboard icon. Click on it, two or more keyboard names will appear; select Dr. Esho's keyboard: "Syriac -2 keyboard -Custom 1-Custom". Now your system is ready to type in Assyrian using Dr. Esho Marcus' Assyrian (Syriac) fonts. |

(e) Four Assyrian "Atuta" fonts free to download
created by: Abraham Giliana (Atuta)
--will not work with MS Office and internet--
I have designed the Atuta fonts in the early 90's. As True Type Font (TTF), they have the characteristics of the English fonts; the computer recognized them as any other English font. In English and other Western language software, the cursor moves from left to right, the fonts designed in the early 90's, were mostly TTF format, which were sufficient for English, but not for the Middle Eastern languages. At that time, the best thing I could do for typing in Assyrian was to flip the mirror font horizontally to make the text readable. I have used these fonts and the "mirroring" technique until now. But to type on the internet and MS Office, I have come to this conclusion that it is best to step up to the next generation, using Microsoft's language bar and Unicode Open Type Fonts (OTF).
For the individuals who still want to work with Atuta fonts, they can always use them as graphics with software such as PhotoShop®, PrintMaster®, PageMaker®, InDesign®, CorelDraw® and Illustrator®. These software can flip the text blocks horizontally and will produce graphic files like photos with extensions .jpg, .tiff, .psd, .gif, .wmf, so forth and use these files independently or can import them into their text as graphics.
In the package "Atuta 2008" I have included a printed user manual showing step by step how to work with Atuta fonts in PrintMaster© software. The package is sold for $50.00. However, the user manual is now available for free for the AssyrianSchool students. To download the complete user's manual in PDF format, click here: User Manual, Atuta 2008/Manual. Assyrian default fontIn the language bar that Microsoft granted all other languages other than English, each language can have only one font as default. In Assyrian language, this default font is called "Estrangelo Edessa". And this is the only font that the internet applications such as e-mail, IM (Instant Messaging) or chat, building websites and browsers are able to use.
This "Estrangelo Edessa" font included in Windows© is one of the oldest fonts that have been designed and for most of today's readers is not readable or popular. So I came up with the idea how about if we changed the looks of it, but use the same name! With the help of Dr. Esho Marcus, I changed the default Syriac font (Estrangelo Edessa) to a new one, and I was able to type in IM, e-mail and the internet browser using the new font. This successful step was taken place on April 10, 2013. So, now I have uploaded the new and the old Estrangelo Edesso fonts on this page and they are available for the Syriac writers and computer users to use. To download the font, simply click on the font "more popular Assyrian Font", open it and install it. When it asks you if you want to replace it, say yes, And you will have the new Syriac font installed on your system. NOTE: If you are working on Windows XP or older, the computer will not ask you if you want to replace it; if you have this font installed already, you would have to delete it from "Fonts" directory first. Then, when you will be able to install the new font(s). Under that font, I have uploaded the "old Estrangelo Edessa" font that came with the Syriac language bar, in case someone needed to re-install it. Both fonts will be here for you folks to choose from. |
Do not pay attention to the similarity of the fonts's names, they ARE different fonts. more popular Assyrian Font:
